Um... Didn't write here for a while...
Yep.
My English-writing buzz is only inspired by the stupidity of Western (UK and US) media and people trusting every word it publishes.

Just watched Wag the Dog. Again. SO true.

The thing is, throughout the Soviet era people in former USSR got used to the fact that whatever newspapers publish is false. So no one actually listens to what media says.

Can't say the same about the "civilized" nations who trust their media.

Muslim PC

Also - I can't honestly understand women that are emancipated enough to go and work in the police service, but being shadowed by nonsense religious beliefs that they can't shake hands with a man. That's not religion, that a show-off: "we are muslims, we are different, you will do as we say".

the phase "she is brave and not afraid to CHALLENGE social NORMS" is nonsense. If you are CHALLENGING social NORMS - there's no place for you in this society.

Just thinking: if calling a woman from India "the indian" is racist, then I shall consider rasist all references to me as "russian". As well as all jokes regarding vodka, blins and other 'traditional' russian dishes.

TfL

I think I am one of millions of Londoners who are fed up with train delays. They are sort of okay-ish and run more or less on time between 6 and 8 am (providing there are no leaves or cows on the track, of course), but once the morning rush is over, they all sort of make a big "pheewwww" thing and consider being on time as just impolite.

I almost laugh now hearing the announcements as to why exactly the train is being late. As if the fact that it is being late because of (yet another) signalling equipment failure is somehow going to make people less sick of it. Can't they bloody fix it? And the "broken down trains causing congestion"?

Sometimes they come up with new stuff. The other day it was "...being delayed due to... a driver receving an instruction to slow down after red signal" (20 mins delay). And the "customer being taken ill on a preceding train".

The worst thing is when the train does finally arrive, and to make up the time it goes fast to it's final destination.
Did you notice that a few years ago they were announcing every minute delay and now they just don't bother if the train is being late for less that 5 minutes?

Surely there must be some sort of public contract that these train companies have with their customers. I'd like to have a look. Maybe we all don't need to pay the ridiculous sums of money is they are late.

Everyone's suddenly got obsessed with Litvinenko death. Everyone's blaming Russian government. Media just gone crazy and public opinion (which is the leading force in the UK) is blaming Putin in killing his outspoken critic.

Now let me ask you something... Have you EVER heard about Litvinenko before he died? I certainly never have. If he had been such a fierce critic of Russian govenment, general pulic would surely heard something about it.

And what's all this with saying that Russians do not want to cooperate and extradite possible figurants to the UK for trial. But had anyone asked what Russian LAWS (which britons love so much) say about all this? Russian LAW does not allow extradition of Russian citizents for trial in foreign countries and if found guilty, they will be trialed and prisoned in Russia. And that is very logical indeed and serves protection of both human rights and own citizents.

This whole hysteria about 'british citizent being killed on the streets of london by KGB'... People, concentrate on your own problems with ethnic immigrants! There is NO KGB. It's gone. And badly directed James Bond style staging of Litvinenko's death was surely prepared by someone outside the Russian government, to make sure Russian government is blamed for it.

In all honestly, do you really think that if Putin was willing to kill someone, he'd do it like this? He'd surely came up with a quiter ways.

And he also doesn't need to let anyone know anything. Because people who need to be scared of him, know that already, without any reminders.

Marketing is a multi-level system used to duck responsibility by all those involved in all phases of the thought-killing process.

Super-nanny state

It's yet another time I tell myself to follow Bulgakov's advice and not to read newspapers (in this case, not to watch TV) before the meal.

I mean... Is England the only place where "traditional", extended families are dissapearing? Where mothers and fathers have to go to work soon after the baby is born?

Surely not.

"Parenting courses" for yob's parent's will be just another drain in the budget. Because they will not work. Because it is stupid.

And no, it's not just the police's job. Not governmental job. It's everyone's job. When you start telling youngsters off and not be afraid of them - then they'll stop behaving like monsters. As simple as that. Start early.

Junk food ads ban

Ok, so now they are banning junk food ads on children's programmes. And they've got it wrong YET again. It's like giving young teenagers ASBO records.

Don't you get the point? Looks like adults are not blaming children for everything that goes wrong in the country. Teens misbehave? Parents and adult society in general are not to blame. Let's make criminals out of children.

Fat kids? Parents are not to blame - let's ban junk food adverts.

What next?

Dissertation thoughts

My understanding of MA theses is... your findings do not really matter. What matters is your ability to draw a nice methodology and litereture review, and tell what you could have done better.

I've always wanted my journal to be called "an englishman in new york". The only problem is, i am not englishman.. and not a man, for this instance. and I'm not in new york. "a russian woman in london" doesn't sound that nice, does it?

Just thought I'd create LJ page as well. Will allow me to bookmark interesting stuff out here.

Don't expect too much entries though.
Well, maybe...
